This Week: The Return of Community Board Season

As summer comes to a close, community boards start to convene again. This week the calendar is filling up with community board discussions of Manhattan plazas, bus lanes, and more.

See the full slate of events on the Streetsblog calendar. Here are the highlights:

  • Monday: Vornado Realty Trust gives an update on the temporary plaza and sidewalk extensions installed near Penn Station to the Manhattan Community Board 5 parks and transportation committees. In June, the committees unanimously endorsed the new pedestrian spaces, which are set to be in place through October. 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday: The Manhattan Community Board 11 transportation committee will hear from DOT about the extension of the Fifth Avenue bus lane from 86th Street to 110th Street. DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said in June that the bus lane, which carry 74,000 riders daily, would be extended “by the end of the summer.” 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday: After countless committee meetings debating the merits of a plaza for Macombs Place at Frederick Douglass Boulevard and W. 150th Street, the proposal, called Bradhurst Plaza, has been sent to the Manhattan Community Board 10 general meeting for a vote. 6 p.m.
  • Thursday: The Manhattan Community Board 9 transportation committee returns from its summer break. While an agenda is not yet available, road diets proposed for Broadway and Riverside Drive in West Harlem are expected to be the topic of heated discussion. 6:30 p.m.
