DOT is looking to simplify the intersection of Myrtle Avenue, Wyckoff Avenue, and Palmetto Street. On the border of Brooklyn and Queens, this crossing is a hub for subway and bus commuters, and its poor design has contributed to the deaths of three pedestrians since 2009.

As Streetsblog recently reported, the heart of the DOT plan — which will be presented to Queens CB 5 and Brooklyn CB 4 later this spring — is a pedestrian plaza that would reduce turning conflicts. On Saturday, DOT will install a “one-day plaza” to give an idea of how the proposed new space would work. The public is invited to check it out.

• Today: DOT will have presentations on 23rd Street Select Bus Service and East River Greenway improvements for the Manhattan CB 6 transportation committee, which will also discuss proposed improvements to the Second Avenue bike lane from 34th to 59th streets. 7 p.m.
• Wednesday: The Manhattan CB 8 transportation committee will hear from the MTA concerning the Second Avenue subway service plan and will discuss a proposal for pedestrian safety improvements at Madison Avenue and 96th Street. 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday: DOT will set up a temporary plaza on Wyckoff Avenue between Myrtle and Gates avenues. Agency reps will be on hand to answer questions and accept public comments. 10 a.m.
• Sunday: Kidical Mass NYC and other groups will host KiDS Bike Forum 2016, to help New York parents get started biking with their children. This weekend’s event is happening in Brooklyn. 10 a.m. RSVP requested.
