This Week: 125th St. SBS, Brooklyn Bikeways and Traffic Calming

This week’s calendar leads off with 125th Street Select Bus Service and rolls on with a series of hearings and events in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Here are the details:

  • Monday: DOT and the MTA will discuss how plans for Select Bus Service on 125th Street are progressing at the third meeting of the Community Advisory Committee for the project. 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Discuss bridge access for pedestrians and cyclists and the Harbor Ring initiative at the East Coast Greenway Alliance’s New York committee meeting. 4:00 p.m.
  • Also Tuesday: Brooklyn Community Board 2’s transportation committee will hear a DOT presentation on extending the Jay Street bike lanes north of Tillary Street. 6:00 p.m.
  • More Tuesday: Bronx Community Board 9’s Public Services Committee will be reviewing NYC DOT’s proposal to improve access to parks along the Bronx River. 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: DOT is holding a public input session on reconstruction of streets in Vinegar Hill, where there is NIMBY opposition to accommodating the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and the 4th Avenue Task Force are hosting an open house with DOT, asking for feedback on ideas for improving 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge, from 65th Street to Shore Road. 6:30 p.m.
  • Also Thursday: DOT will present proposals for bike lanes on Union and Sackett Streets, as well as for two bike corrals, to Brooklyn Community Board 6’s transportation committee.
  • More Thursday: Staff from DOT is meeting with local residents and Council Member Mathieu Eugene to discuss traffic calming on Cortelyou Road. 7:00 p.m. This meeting has been postponed until a date to be named later.
  • Friday: A half-day conference on bicycling and the Brooklyn waterfront will discuss everything from street and greenway engineering to the history of bicycling in Brooklyn. 8:30 a.m.
