This Week: Greenpoint Transpo Forum, Riders Alliance Launch

If you live, work or play in Greenpoint, you won’t want to miss tonight’s transportation and traffic safety town hall, hosted by City Council Member Steve Levin. Other electeds will be on hand, including Assembly Member Joe Lentol, State Senators Dan Squadron and Martin Dilan and Congress Member Carolyn Maloney. They’ll be discussing everything from bike lanes and traffic enforcement to transit service, and they want to hear from you. The forum gets underway at 6:30 at the Polish Slavic Center, 176 Java Street.

Lots more going on before the holiday break:

  • Today: A treat for our Boston area readers: Streetsblog founding editor Aaron Naparstek, a fellow at MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning, will speak with Jarrett Walker, planning consultant and author of “Human Transit.” On the heels of the release of Walker’s new book, the two will discuss transit as a tool for “expanding every individual’s freedom to access the riches of their city.” 5:30 p.m. Details here.
  • Today: Join transit advocates at the launch event for the Riders Alliance, a “membership organization of subway and bus riders in New York, dedicated to winning better transit by organizing transit riders into a powerful political constituency.” RSVP online or attend for free by joining the Riders Alliance. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
