This Week: Bike-Share and Bike Lanes in Midtown

Until recently, Midtown had been something of a desert for high-quality bike infrastructure. But with protected bike lanes extending up the East and West Sides and bike-share set to blanket the area, that’s about to change in a big way this year. The transportation committee of Manhattan CB 5 gets an update on upcoming bike improvements Thursday evening, with DOT not only walking them through the proposed map of bike-share stations but also presenting new plans for “Crosstown Marking Enhancements and Bike Lane Connections.” Also on the calendar this week:

  • Tonight: Sam Schwartz presents his plan to rationalize the region’s tolling system at NYU’s Rudin Center for Transportation. 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: DOT gives Manhattan CB 5’s transportation committee an update on plans for cycling in Midtown, presenting both the near-final map of bike-share station locations and plans for crosstown bike paths. 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday: Enjoy a bike bonanza in Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park. Try out the new bike-share bikes, get fitted for a free city helmet, or have your kids learn to ride a bike. 12:00 p.m.

Keep an eye on the calendar for updated listings. Got an event we should know about? Drop us a line.
