This Week: Sadik-Khan, No Impact Man, U.S. Transpo Policy

There are two chances to hear from NYC DOT bigs this week, with a Janette Sadik-Khan lecture on Thursday and a Wednesday talk from Jon Orcutt and Linda Bailey on the future of federal transportation funding. On the Upper West Side, No Impact Man Colin Beavan headlines the second meeting of the Carbon Squeeze, while CB 7 holds its bike-share planning workshop.

  • Tonight: Join the Carbon Squeeze for its second event on the Upper West Side, featuring Colin Beavan, better known as No Impact Man and executive director of the No Impact Project. Leave inspired to conduct your own No Impact Week. 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Join the Transportation Alternatives East Side Volunteer Committee for a meeting and bike ride. On hand will be representatives of local pols to talk about the UN land swap that holds the key to filling the gap in the East River Greenway. Please note the meeting will be hosted at Union Settlement, not the Vanderbilt YMCA. The bike ride starts at the Y at 6:00 sharp; the meeting follows at 6:30. Details here.
  • Wednesday: Jon Orcutt, NYC DOT policy director and Wagner School adjunct professor, and Linda Bailey, NYC DOT federal programs adviser, will discuss federal transportation spending and the politics surrounding H.R. 7, the recently introduced House bill which would imperil funding for public transit, pedestrian, and cycling projects.
  • Thursday: Manhattan Community Board 7 will host a bike-share workshop for the Upper West Side. Sessions begin at 6 and 7 p.m.
  • Thursday: The Graduate Program in Urban Design, Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of New York, is pleased to announce the eighth annual Lewis Mumford Lecture on Urbanism, featuring NYC DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan. 6:30 p.m. No reservations required.
