This Week: Mourning Lost Transit as Commuters Wait for Cuomo

As the transit lockbox bill awaits the signature of Governor Cuomo — by no means a sure thing — tonight Transportation Alternatives will be holding a Vigil for Public Transit: “One year ago, New York City had two subway lines, 36 bus routes and 570 bus stops taken away. In Albany, our own state elected representatives stole funds dedicated for public transit and used them to patch up other holes in the budget. Please join us with artifacts of the transit you most miss, and signs to show what has been lost.” Ditmars Blvd. and 31st St., Queens, 6:30 p.m.

Also this week:

Tuesday: The Fulton Area Business Alliance hosts the first of two workshops on a new public plaza to be created in Fort Greene; NYC DOT will present plans for a Safe Streets for Seniors project to Brooklyn Community Board 12; and Auto-Free New York and vision42 will discuss light rail as a transit solution for Midtown East.
Wednesday: The second public plaza workshop takes place in Fort Greene; TA treats commuters to breakfast on the Queensboro Bridge.
