This Week: Waterfront Plans, Ped Plazas, and a Safer Queens Blvd

It’s a very busy week, with plenty of public meetings and opportunities to speak up for more livable streets, so make sure to check out the Streetsblog calendar for the complete listing of the week’s events. Here are a few of the events we’re most excited about:

  • Tuesday: The Department of City Planning holds a public meeting on its draft waterfront plan. What goes into the final plan could have a big impact on the city’s greenway system, ferry plans, and truck traffic. 6:00 p.m.
  • Also Tuesday: Congressman Jerrold Nadler’s office explains the traffic effects of the one-way Verrazano Bridge toll to Manhattan Community Board 2. DOT will also be there to present some changes to the Gansevoort Plaza design. 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday morning: Join Transportation Alternatives’ Queens Committee and TA staff to meet with elected officials along the length of Queens Boulevard and push for more safety improvements on the dangerous road. 9:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday evening: Myrtle Avenue in Fort Greene is slated to get a big pedestrian plaza and DOT wants to hear from the public as the design process moves forward. 5:30 p.m.
  • Also Wednesday evening: Staten Island residents get their chance to weigh in on next year’s update of PlaNYC. 7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: Incredible progress has been made on the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway recently, but there are a lot of details left to work out. Help DOT find the right route through Red Hook. 6:30 p.m.

Keep an eye on the calendar for updated listings. Got an event we should know about? Drop us a line.
