This Week: Cars in the City, Cars Off Park Avenue

Another week bereft of community board intrigue, but there are more enjoyable ways to spend your time. For instance…

  • Tuesday: Want to see a complete greenway along the East Side of Manhattan? Come to Transportation Alternatives’s East Side Committee meeting to make it happen. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: The Museum of the City of New York hosts a panel on the future of the car in the city, as part of its exhibition "Cars, Culture and the City." In this installment, TA’s Noah Budnick and Columbia University’s Vishaan  Chakrabarti will discuss ways to mitigate the danger, congestion, pollution, and other harmful effects of the automobile on New York City. 6:30 p.m. This event has been cancelled.
  • Friday: The Parking Lot Movie premiers in NYC. Parking lot attendants in Charlottesville, Virginia — undergraduate and graduate students, philosophers, intellectuals, musicians, artists, and marginal types — try to stave off ennui as they explore capitalism, anger, justice, drunkenness, spiritual awareness, class struggle, entitlement, and service sector employment. Advance word from a trusted source is that you’ve gotta see it. Streetsblog review coming later this week. 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: This year’s Summer Streets begin! 7 a.m.

Keep an eye on the calendar for updated listings. Got an event we should know about? Drop us a line.
