This Week: Queens Parking Tour, Dueling Street Reclamations

What the calendar may lack in quantity this week, it more than makes up for with some high quality events.

  • Tuesday: Auto-Free New York offers a tour of Long Island City, Queens, focusing on how the explosion of new parking spaces is undermining this transit-rich neighborhood. 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Two great livable streets events go head to head. Janette Sadik-Khan and other NYC leaders will present innovative projects to reclaim New York City’s streets at Top Down, Bottom Up, a conference affiliated with ITDP’s ongoing exhibition, Our Cities, Ourselves. It gets underway at the Center for Architecture at 4 p.m.

Then over at 55 Water Street (NYCDOT headquarters), a panel of experts will discuss and compare livable streets initiatives in New York and San Francisco at an event jointly sponsored by the American Planning Association and NYCDOT. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m.

Keep an eye on the calendar for updated listings. Got an event we should know about? Drop us a line.
