This Week in Livable Streets Events

Sunday’s Tour de Queens is shaping up to be the big event on this week’s Streetsblog Calendar. Transportation Alternatives will also offer opportunities for residents of the Bronx and Manhattan to get involved in improving their neighborhood streets.

  • Tuesday: Transportation Alternatives East Side Committee Meeting. Transportation Alternatives is kicking off an
exciting new campaign focused on winning better biking, walking and
transit on the East Side of Manhattan.
Join other Manhattan East Siders as TA plans advocacy efforts for safer streets. 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Transportation Alternatives Bronx Committee Meeting. The Bronx Committee is one of Transportation Alternatives’ most
successful volunteer campaigns. Founded in 1994, the Bronx Committee
was involved in developing the Bronx Greenway Plan and organizing the
first Safe Routes to School program in North America. The committee will be advocating for safer bike lanes and traffic-calming
measures throughout the borough, and attending car-free events
throughout the summer and fall. 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Benefit for SafeWalk and RightRides. SafeWalk is a program of RightRides for Women’s Safety that offers
anyone a free, safe walk to any destination in northern Brooklyn on
Friday nights. Tonight’s benefit will feature music, baked goods (vegan and non),
    beverages, informational tables, and fun! 8 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
  • Sunday: Tour de Queens. The Tour de Queens is a leisurely paced 22-mile ride open to riders of
all ages and skill levels. The course is mostly flat, and will go
through parks and neighborhoods in eastern and southern Queens.
Registration is required; limited day-of registration will be available beginning at 8 a.m. The ride starts at 9:00.
