GREENPOINT AND WILLIAMBSURG WATERFRONT: THE FAREWELL TOUR

rezoning has made the East River waterfront of these two northern Brooklyn neighborhoods into some of the hottest property in town, and soon the gritty industrial strip will yield to shiny high rises and luxury condos. This tour gives you a chance to experience some of that old industrial atmosphere before it disappears forever, and to learn about what changes will take place. Highlights will include the ruins of the Greenpoint Terminal Market, a landmark-quality group of industrial buildings lately ravaged by a horrendous blaze, and Cass Gilbert’s almost landmarked Austin Nichols Warehouse, among much else. Leader: Francis Morrone, architectural historian. Meet at the corner of Greenpoint and Manhattan avenues, at subway station exit. (Transit: G train to Greenpoint Ave.)
