The bike lanes and pedestrian safety improvements on First and Second Avenues could finally be completed up to 125th Street as promised next year, and this week the project will face two critical community board votes. The transportation committees of the East Harlem and Upper East Side community boards will be discussing whether to extend the lanes north from Midtown to 125th Street, a plan which both boards endorsed last year. Even with the prior record of support, this week’s votes could go the other way, so a strong showing from supporters of complete streets can help badly needed safety improvements to finally move forward.

• Tonight: Manhattan CB 11’s transportation committee discusses whether to build the lanes in its district, north of 96th Street. 5:30 p.m.
• Wednesday: CB 8’s transportation committee joins the discussion over First and Second Avenues, considering whether to build the protected lanes through the Upper East Side. If you bike or walk on the Upper East Side, your voice could help sway a board with a shaky record of support for complete streets. 6:30 p.m.
• Thursday: Local electeds are hosting a design forum to gather ideas for the plan to close the East River Greenway gap in Midtown. 4:00 p.m.
• Saturday: Friends of slain cyclist Christopher Doyle host a memorial bike ride and potluck dinner in his honor. 5:30 p.m.
