This Week: Biking Behavior, Road Pricing, and the Waterfront

Most of the action on the post-Thanksgiving calendar is crammed into a very busy Tuesday.

  • Tuesday: The 2010 Waterfront Conference features an impressive roster of speakers, including Mayor Bloomberg, Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden, Port Authority chief Chris Ward, NYC EDC President Seth Pinsky, and author Bill McKibben. The all-day event, which will focus on the city’s once-in-a-generation update of its Comprehensive Waterfront Plan, gets started at 8:00 a.m. at the National Museum of the American Indian.
  • Later Tuesday: Join the Bicycle Strategies Committee of Manhattan Community Board 2 for a discussion of how to promote “a more conscientious bicycling style” and to encourage drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to use bike lanes with greater respect for the rules. 6:30 p.m.
  • Also on Tuesday: Streetsblog contributor Charles Komanoff discusses road pricing options for New York City and his Balanced Transportation Analyzer at the monthly meeting of Auto-Free New York. 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: NYC DOT and MTA will be talking about the Hylan Boulevard Transportation Improvement Study and gathering feedback on transit service, traffic, pedestrian safety, and curb access on this important Staten Island corridor. 6:30 p.m.
