This Week: David Owen and the Architecture of Community
Book talks, lectures and holiday parties dominate the calendar this week. If nothing else, don’t miss Tuesday’s chance to hear David Owen explain how congestion pricing is bad.
- Monday: At tonight’s Community Board 12 transportation committee meeting, a representative from DOT is scheduled to present a brief update on the proposed Dyckman Street Greenway Connector, with a more detailed report promised for January. 711 W. 168th St. 7 p.m.
- Tuesday: David Owen, evangelist for the inherent sustainability of cities, congestion pricing critic, will do a book talk at the Skyscraper Museum. 6:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: The Congress for the New Urbanism presents urbanist and author Leon Krier, who will discuss the architecture of community. Book signing to follow. 6:30 p.m. Also Wednesday, Tom Jost, student of the urban environment and urban planner, will address implementing the sustainability agenda. 7 p.m.
- Thursday: The Municipal Art Society and Neighbors Allied for Good Growth will host respective holiday parties.
- Friday: NYU Ph.D. student Yang Chen will discuss emerging urban
design in China, and how it relates to energy consumption and
emissions. 1 p.m.
