Tweeting Out Your Anger at Another Hot, Slow, Crowded Subway Ride? Always Loop in the Man Who Runs the MTA: @NYGovCuomo

Transit riders are directing their ire toward MTA employees. But make no mistake: The buck stops with the governor.

Put subway Wi-Fi to its highest and best use by tweeting to @NYGovCuomo about your lousy commute.

The subway was a mess this morning, with delays on no fewer than 11 lines.

Gothamist reports:

To recap, these trains were fucked this morning: 4, 5, 6, A, C, E, B, D, F, M, and L. And it appears the 2 had troubles, as well.

But at least the WiFi service is pretty good down there, which means you can tweet your frustrations at the MTA and eventually we’ll get reduced fares, right?

And when you’re tweeting from that hot, crowded subway platform — or a hot, crowded train that isn’t moving — don’t forget to channel that frustration toward the man who runs the MTA: Governor Andrew Cuomo, whose Twitter handle is @NYGovCuomo.

The Times reported today that angry transit riders are directing their ire toward MTA employees. But make no mistake: The buck stops with the governor, the one person who can knock heads and shake things up at the MTA.

What if all these @MTA mentions morphed into tweets calling out @NYGovCuomo?

After all, it’s Cuomo who has prioritized frills like Wi-Fi and USB ports as subway and bus service continues to slide. It’s Cuomo who has orchestrated repeated raids on the MTA budget during his tenure as governor. And it’s Cuomo who has failed to deliver core capacity improvements like a better signal system in a reasonable amount of time.

Cuomo has had nearly seven years to work toward getting the MTA’s house in order. But unless there’s a ribbon to cut on a shiny new project like the Second Avenue Subway, he’s usually trying to dissociate himself from the transit system he’s responsible for.

So the next time you’re underground stewing in your own juices, remember whose mentions you want to bombard to provoke real change: @NYGovCuomo.
