A driver killed a senior in Greenpoint this morning.

Joseph Ranieri, 71, was crossing Meeker Avenue between Bridgewater Street and Gardner Avenue, south to north, at around 6 a.m. when he was struck by an eastbound motorist driving a Jeep, according to NYPD.

Ranieri, who lived in Queens, sustained trauma to his body. He died at Woodhull Hospital.

There are stop signs at both ends of the block of Meeker where the collision occurred, an industrial area where people park on the sidewalks. Under Section 4-04(c)(3) of city traffic rules, mid-block crossings are legal on blocks that are not bounded by signalized intersections.

NYPD withheld the driver’s name, identifying him only as a 30-year-old man. Police filed no charges and the investigation is “ongoing,” NYPD said.

New York City motorists have killed at least 10 seniors in 2017, according to crash data compiled by Streetsblog.

Joseph Ranieri was killed in the 94th Precinct and in the City Council district represented by Steve Levin.
