This Week: DOT Workshop on Myrtle, Wyckoff, and Palmetto

The intersection of Myrtle Avenue, Wyckoff Avenue, and Palmetto Street, on the border of Brooklyn and Queens, is chaotic and deadly. According to city crash data, drivers have killed three pedestrians at this crossing, a hub for subway and bus commuters, since 2009. At least two of the victims were struck by MTA bus drivers.

On Tuesday, DOT will hold a Vision Zero workshop to solicit public input on improvements, including plaza space, at Myrtle, Wyckoff, and Palmetto.

Also this week, DOT hosts two more workshops on access to Harlem River bridges in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan.

  • Today: DOT and the MTA have a presentation of M23 Select Bus Service for the Manhattan CB 5 transportation committee. 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday: DOT is wrapping up a one-year planning process to improve safety and mobility for people walking and biking across the Harlem River. There are two workshops this week, starting with a Tuesday meeting at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital on the Grand Concourse. 6:30 p.m. RSVP info here.
  • Also Tuesday: DOT is proposing to enhance safety and public space at the deadly intersection of Myrtle Avenue, Wyckoff Avenue, and Palmetto Street, where the L/M trains connect to the Ridgewood Bus Terminal. Give your input on safety and plaza design at a Tuesday evening Vision Zero workshop. 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: The City Council transportation committee will take up a bill to give DOT control over pedestrian plazas, with existing plazas grandfathered in. 10 a.m.
  • Also Wednesday: The second of two DOT workshops on access to Harlem River bridges is happening in Inwood. 6:30 p.m. RSVP info here.
