This Week: Lincoln Square, Pulaski Bridge, Gowanus Greenway

Things get going tomorrow with a community board meeting about proposed safety improvements for the Lincoln Square bowtie, followed by updates on the Pulaski Bridge bike path on Wednesday and an on-street greenway connection between Carroll Gardens and Sunset Park on Thursday.

As always, check the calendar for the full slate of events. Here are the highlights:

  • Tuesday: On the agenda of the Brooklyn Community Board 1 transportation committee: an open discussion of cycling in the district. If you have ideas about how to improve cycling in north Brooklyn and don’t want to see this meeting descend into cyclist stereotypes, you can’t miss this one. 6:30 p.m.
  • Also Tuesday: DOT will unveil a pedestrian safety proposal for the Lincoln Square “bowtie,” where Broadway crosses Amsterdam Avenue near Lincoln Center, to the Manhattan Community Board 7 transportation committee. 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday: DOT will host a public meeting in Long Island City to provide an update on the Pulaski Bridge bike path. The project will convert a southbound car lane to a two-way protected bike path. It was supposed to be completed this year, but has been held up by red tape. 6 p.m.
  • Also Wednesday: Join author and transit historian Andrew J. Sparberg at the New York Transit Museum as he discusses the history of New York’s transit system between subway unification in 1940 and the creation of the MTA in 1968. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: DOT will present a proposal for a Gowanus Greenway Connector on Hamilton Avenue between Carroll Gardens and Sunset Park to a joint meeting of the Brooklyn Community Board 6 and 7 transportation committees. 6:30 p.m.
