This Week: Jay Street, Riverside Drive, Morningside Avenue

This week kicks off with an opportunity to improve Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn, and continues with a proposal to enhance pedestrian safety along Riverside Drive, discussion of bus and street safety improvements at Harlem’s CB 10, and a quality-of-like panel in Kips Bay featuring city agencies and elected officials.

  • Monday: Join Transportation Alternatives and local decision makers for a community planning meeting to identify the most dangerous locations along Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn and brainstorm solutions. 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: The State Senate transportation committee is meeting to discuss a bill to require alcohol testing after crashes causing death or serious injury in which the driver is suspected of being drunk, and another to make leaving the scene of a crash a class A misdemeanor. 10:30 a.m.
  • Also Tuesday: DOT will present proposed pedestrian safety improvements on Riverside Drive at 72nd and 79th Streets to the Manhattan Community Board 7 transportation committee. 7:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: The Manhattan Community Board 10 transportation committee will continue discussion of traffic calming on Morningside Avenue and Mount Morris Park West, as well as the impact of M60 Select Bus Service on the elderly and disabled. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: Manhattan Community Board 6 and the Kips Bay Neighborhood Alliance are co-hosting a quality-of-life panel with representatives from city agencies, moderated by City Council members Dan Garodnick and Rosie Mendez. Issues will include public safety and transportation. 6:30 p.m.
