This Week: Complete Fifth and Sixth Aves, Riders Alliance Gala

It’s a holiday week, but there are two quality events on the calendar, both tonight. Join supporters of complete streets in Midtown or party for better transit service with Riders Alliance. Either way, you win.

  • Today: In Midtown, the transportation committee of Manhattan Community Board 5 will consider a resolution to ask DOT for a feasibility study on new pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure for Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The committee responded favorably after Transportation Alternatives organized support for “complete street” improvements, gathering thousands of signatures and hand-written letters. A strong turnout at tonight’s meeting will help build momentum. 6 p.m.
  • Today: Tonight is the Riders Alliance 2013 Gala, a party and fundraiser to help win better transit in NYC. On tap: transit-themed cocktails, subway musicians, food platters, and hundreds of members and special guests. Admission is free for members. Ticket info here. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
