Thanks to Everyone Who Gave to Streetsblog and Streetfilms in 2012

On behalf of the staff of Streetsblog and Streetfilms I’d like to extend a warm thank you to everyone who donated to our year-end pledge drive. Reader support is what keeps us going, and this year everyone contributed in a big way.

We’ve counted up the online donations and the checks that came in the mail, and all told you raised $57,360 for livable streets journalism in the last 67 days of 2012. That’s huge!

Donors from all over the country won prizes supplied by our fantastic sponsors. Streetsblog SF supporter Scott Zimmermann won the Patagonia jacket. Sam from DC is taking home a collection of jazz CDs from Sunnyside Records. Five readers are getting posters courtesy of ARTCRANK. And the grand prize, a Specialized hybrid bike supplied by our friends at Bicycle Habitat, is getting shipped out to Zane Bishop, who’s currently studying planning at Ball State University in Carmel, Indiana. Ride it well, Zane.

Since we’re so, so close to hitting the $60,000 goal, we’re going to leave the donate banners up on the site until the end of this week, or until we hit the target, whichever comes first. There are no prizes to claim, just the satisfaction of putting us over the top, making us take down the fundraising banner, and helping Streetsblog and Streetfilms get off to a great start in 2013.

As recently as 2007, there were no protected bike lanes in New York City, plans to enhance major bus routes were sitting on a shelf, and city transportation officials were still trying to do things like convert neighborhood commercial streets into high-speed traffic sewers. Streetsblog and Streetfilms helped change that. We raised expectations for our […]

Christa masterminded the creation of a fundraising system essentially from scratch, and it’s safe to say Streetsblog and Streetfilms would not be in the position we are today without her. If […]

Ten years ago, Mark Gorton, Aaron Naparstek, and Clarence Eckerson started a new media venture — Streetsblog and Streetfilms. The idea was to show that cities work best when streets are designed for people, not cars, and to press public officials to bring street design and transportation policy into the 21st century. No one had seen […]
