This Week: Bike-Share and Bike Lanes in Midtown

Midtown bike infrastructure highlights this week’s calendar. Tonight, the transportation committee of Manhattan CB 6 will have a look at the proposed map of bike-share stations for the district, and DOT will present the crosstown bike routes that the agency unveiled last week. Also on the calendar:

  • Today: At this evening’s meeting of the Manhattan Community Board 6 transportation committee, DOT will present plans for crosstown bike lanes on 39th, 40th, 43rd, 44th, 48th, 51st, 54th and 55th Streets from First to Eighth Avenues. The committee will also discuss proposed bike-share locations (PDF) in the district, which includes Murray Hill, Gramercy, Turtle Bay, Kips Bay, Stuy-Town and Peter Cooper Village. 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Sam Schwartz will discuss his toll plan with a panel of transportation and development specialists, and will field questions from the audience, at a panel entitled “Don’t Call It Congestion Pricing,” hosted by the Center for Architecture. 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday: The Manhattan CB 8 transportation committee will take up a request for the installation of a pedestrian ramp at the southwest corner of E. 69th Street and First Avenue. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: NYU’s Rudin Center holds a symposium on “the distinctive role that walking plays in city life,” featuring keynote speaker Tom Vanderbilt. 8:30 a.m.
