This Week: NBBL Get Their Day in Court

The most significant transportation-related event this week will likely be Wednesday’s Brooklyn Supreme Court hearing on the Prospect Park West bike lane lawsuit. Judge Bert Bunyan is expected to consider the bike lane opponents’ main legal arguments for the first time at this hearing. We don’t have the exact time or room number for the hearing though, so it’s not on the calendar yet.

Also on the agenda this week: new plans for public plazas and the start of a process to improve transit service to LaGuardia.

  • Tonight: The transportation committee of Manhattan Community Board 5 sees the latest version of DOT’s plans for Pershing Square, in front of Grand Central, and then discusses the current, scaled-back plans for bus improvements on 34th Street. 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday: DOT presents plans for safety improvements in Greenpoint, with an eye towards helping the area’s large and vulnerable senior population. 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Efforts to improve transit access to LaGuardia Airport, probably through improved bus service, kick off at a public meeting held by DOT, the MTA, and the Port Authority. 6:30 p.m.
  • Also Wednesday: DOT will present plans for a new public plaza at the Triangle on New Lots Avenue to Brooklyn CB 5. 6:30 p.m.
