This Week: Livable Streets on the Big Screen

Some great screenings bookend this week, beginning with a new PBS documentary on our national infrastructure crisis and culminating with four days of films celebrating the bicycle and bike culture.

  • Tonight: Through the prism of Detroit and its neighborhoods, the PBS documentary
    "Beyond the Motor City" shines a spotlight on America’s decaying and neglected infrastructure — and its prospects for renewal. Tonight you can catch a special screening at City College with director Aaron Woolf and producer Kathleen Hughes. 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday: DOT will present safety enhancements and bus improvements for the Queens side of the Triborough/RFK Bridge to Queens CB 1. 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Experts gather at NYU to discuss how high-speed rail investment can be linked to existing transit networks and local opportunities for economic development. Polly Trottenberg, Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S. DOT, provides the keynote. 8:30 a.m.
  • Also Wednesday: NYCDOT gives a presentation on extending the Eighth Avenue cycle track to Manhattan CB 4. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday through Sunday: The 10th Anniversary Bicycle Film Festival features ten film programs, an art show, a day-long street party, and after-parties every night until 4 a.m.
