If all goes according to plan, the decision to approve Mayor Bloomberg’s congestion pricing proposal will be made by New York City’s 51 Council members some time before March 28, 2008. Gotham Gazette called every single New York City Council member to ask where they stood on congestion pricing and here is what reporter Courtney Gross found:

Twenty council members support or lean toward the plan. Another 11 oppose it or lean against it. Nearly a third of the council, or 16 members, contacted by Gotham Gazette said they were undecided, and three others did not return repeated phone calls. Jessica Lappin was on vacation and so unavailable.

For the plan to pass, 26 council members would have to approve it. With City Council Speaker Christine Quinn supporting the fees, Bloomberg may be able to move some members over to his side.
