34th Street Partnership Explains the Icey Snow in the Bike Lane
On Tuesday we posted an "Eyes on the Street" item looking at the sorry, snowed-in condition of the bike lane running through Herald Square.
Seth Taylor at the 34th Street Partnership sends along the photo above and explains:
The 34th Street Partnership apologizes for the inconvenience caused to cyclists by the closure of the Herald Square bike lane. The day before the snow storm, a pipe burst in the adjacent food kiosk, covering the entire street corner with a thick layer of ice. This unusual circumstance made it extraordinarily difficult for our sanitation crews to melt and clear the snow in this location while temperatures remained below freezing. As of yesterday, the problem has been resolved. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience. Pedestrian and bicycle safety is one of our top priorities.
