A city plan to give both pedestrians and cyclists their own space on the crowded Queensboro Bridge won’t be done until at least the middle of next year, the DOT now says.
DOT wants to officially ban street vendors from its bridges after NYPD temporarily ejected sellers from the Brooklyn Bridge promenade in January — raising the alarm for merchants who say they have fewer and fewer places to hawk their wares.
The DOT admitted this week that the all-important, must-have, can't-do-anything-without-it cable study — mentioned in 2016, announced in 2017, supposed to start in 2019, and again in 2020 — never actually started.
The Department of Transportation quietly revealed at a Council hearing this week that it has once again pushed back the timeline on transforming the south outer road of the Queensboro Bridge into exclusive space for pedestrians — with the lane now slated to open in 2024.
