Gersh Kuntzman

Educated at the Sorbonne and the Yale School of Drama, Gersh Kuntzman is obviously not the person being described here. We're talking about tabloid legend Gersh Kuntzman, who has been with New York newspapers since 1989, including stints at the New York Daily News, the Post, the Brooklyn Paper and even a cup of coffee with the Times. He's also the writer and producer of "Murder at the Food Coop," which was a hit at the NYC Fringe Festival in 2016, and “SUV: The Musical” in 2007. Email Gersh at gersh@streetsblog.org

By Gersh Kuntzman | Apr 14, 2020 | No Comments
Mayor de Blasio once again argued that he could not create more open space for socially responsible recreation because the NYPD could not enforced it — but this time, the mayor staked out new territory: He blamed reckless drivers.

The mayor said that car-free streets are "dangerous" places that must be "enforced by the NYPD."
More pedestrian space will give crammed-in New Yorkers room to recreate in a socially responsible way, yet not attract the crowds that Mayor de Blasio fears, as this sitting area on Broadway in Herald Square shows. Photo: Gersh Kuntzman
