Today’s Carnage Brought to You By…
By Brad Aaron |
Yesterday, a 9-year-old Brooklyn boy was run down in the street while on his way home from school. The 16-year-old driver, Shyquan Burns, was behind the wheel of a souped-up Dodge Charger. Witnesses say Burns, who fled the scene but later turned himself into police, was speeding. The victim, Akeem Suluki, was in critical condition […]

Jay Leno Plays Vehicular Manslaughter for Laughs
By Brad Aaron |
According to Movieline (via New York Mag), Jay Leno’s new prime time show, set to debut on NBC in September, hasn’t exactly been generating a lot of buzz. But since nothing says funny like a grisly hit-and-run, this promo, co-starring Fred Armisen of "Saturday Night Live," should turn things around. Though I’m pretty sure Leno […]
Weekly Carnage – Hiatus Edition
By Aaron Donovan |
The Weekly Carnage is on vacation this week and is off trying not to think about automobile-related death, destruction and mayhem. Add any carnage you may have read about in the comments and I’ll include in next week’s special double feature.
European Automakers Are Feeling the Heat
By Jason Varone |
While the never-ending barrage of automobile advertising is as shameless as ever here in the States, European automakers are beginning to recognize that their product is perceived as harmful and destructive, not unlike cigarettes or trans-fats. The Wall Street Journal reports: Amid growing alarm over climate change and a trend in Europe toward faster, heavier […]
Ad Nauseam: Holy Rollover Risk, Batmom!!
By Brad Aaron |
Lexus has suspended sales of its GX 460 after Consumer Reports issued a "don’t buy" warning earlier this week. Apparently the luxury SUV’s electronic "stability control" system can fail to correct drivers taking turns too quickly, resulting in a rollover risk. Times car blog Wheels reports: Mr. Champion [Consumer Reports auto testing director] said that […]
Oh what a feeling… Toyota.
It’s like
smoking ads next to a study on lung cancer
alcohol ad next to a case of drunken spousal abuse.
—
When will we start treating cars the public health threat they are?
Airlines pull all advertising from newspaper editions that report on plane crashes. Automakers don’t have that luxury because they’d be pulling their advertising every day.
Or newspapers would simply stop publishing without all that ad revenue…
If advertisers paid more attention like the airline industry, we wouldn’t have half as many laughs at their expense.
I’ve collected a number of unfortunately placed ads (click on my name to see them). This one’s a particularly cheeky sort.
Found the actual article, and it was a BMW… should’ve been a BMW ad. 🙁
Nice! That could actually be a fun spoof site to make…pairing those kinds of things up. Maybe pairing up some of the medications with some of their side effects (nausea, headache, loose bowels) it would be great.

This is cool !
OH MY GOSH! Thats pretty crappy yet still hilarious!
This is very hilarious!!
I think it would have been more ironic had it been an ad for Dodge.
This can’t be compared to smoking ad beside lung cancer. Toyota is a more acceptable ads, and to be placed on top of that article is really unthinkable.
That’s like the classic one from many years ago…

It wasn’t all that funny….
In Marketing it doesn’t matter if it’s a good or a bad news, as long as the people still have the name in their heads.
Reminds me of this:

That’s hilarious, that made my day.
The article in the background was an article about my next door neighbor who died because a car hit her. She was a very nice lady and the man who hit her said he was going no faster than 10 mph. the car was a bmw.
I saw a picture of the car afterwards, and I have to say, those toyota’s can really take a beating without denting. LOL
They have a special school just for queens?
lol they deserve it!
I used to work at a newspaper and got in trouble once by not realizing I ran a full page ad for a smoke shop on the same page as the obituaries.
you got it toyota
As an old journalism major, this is called unfortunate placement. But funny.
Nowadays websites put advertisements like this and we cannot read the article without clicking on the image or moving the image. This is exactly like they do it.Truly Hilarious.
So…funny and unfortunate too that I know to how extent marketing strategies can go…some times beyond sentiments.

I absolutely hate these times of ads! They are intrusive and just annoy the hell out of me, and I know Im not alone!

Whatever You’re Into, Get Into Shisha
I’d like to buy a Toyota now (a little sarcasm).
Is there a way to “X” out the ads?
May I recommend the Flashblock extension for Firefox? Flash stuff doesn’t start unless you click on a little Flash logo that appears in place of the Flash object.
Intrusive indeed – let alone slowing down my browser and starting unwanted audio tracks at max volume.
Kinda wish it could be blocked somehow..

Nice catch! =) Always loved similar things
How about a link to Flashblock?
