Two New Features on Streetsblog

I just wanted to point you to two new features here on Streetsblog.

First, if you want to receive a daily digest of Streetsblog posts via e-mail, enter your address into the little box at the right labeled "Daily e-mail digests." Every morning you will receive the previous day’s postings in your e-mail inbox. Your address won’t be used for anything else.

Second, we’ve got a new Contributions page with all kinds of great new functionality. Here is how to get your stories, photos and tips to Streetsblog:

Send Us Your Park(ing) Day Pics!

|
A quick Flickr search for “Park(ing) Day 2011” this afternoon turned up this excellent rug-based parking spot reclamation all the way down under in Adelaide, Australia. So far, nothing from NYC, arguably the birthplace of the Park(ing) Day concept (though the San Francisco partisans will have something to say about that). C’mon, New York, show […]

Car-Free Space Is an Instant Hit on Broadway

|
Here’s the view from 45th Street looking south at about 1 pm today, about 30 minutes after the city Dept. of Transportation closed Broadway to motor vehicle traffic in Midtown. It’s obviously way too soon to judge how this experiment is working but today, at least, car-free Broadway appears to be a huge hit.  If […]

You Can be a Streetsblog Contributor Too

|
This photo comes to us from Bicyclesonly who is uploading photos (of, you guessed it, bicycles only) to Flickr and tagging them "streetsblog." By tagging your photos as such, they will automatically pop up on our newly revamped "Contribute to Streetsblog" page over there in the upper left corner of the screen. You can upload […]

Photo: Jeff Prant Thursday: How can NYC make cycling mainstream and integrate it with the city’s transportation system? NYCOT’s Jon Orcutt, Transportation Alternatives’ Caroline […]

Photos From Year Five of Summer Streets

|
Thanks to reader Jeff Prant for sending in these pics from the Midtown section of Saturday’s Summer Streets installment. I caught the tail end of the event, and turnout seemed as strong as ever. If the forecast holds, it looks like this Saturday will be less hot and muggy. Which is good, because I think […]

More Park(ing) Pics: The Art of Sitting in the Street

|
Members of Community Boards 2 and 4 chat up visitors to their spot on 8th Avenue and 14th Street. Streetsblog’s Brad Aaron has been roving around Manhattan today, snapping shots of Park(ing) installations. Based on these pics, people are really getting into their seating amenities this year. Check out the roll-able chaise longue lawn chairs […]
