This Week: Second Ave Bikeway, Queens Blvd Redesign

The new Streetsblog Calendar year kicks off with a couple of big community board meetings.

Last summer DOT said it intended to make good on plans to build a protected bikeway on Second Avenue between 60th Street and 100th Street after construction wraps on the Second Avenue subway. On Wednesday the agency will unveil its proposal at a meeting of the Manhattan Community Board 8 transportation committee.

Also this week, Queens CB 2 will entertain complainers who aren’t happy that Queens Boulevard finally has a bike lane. CB 2 endorsed long-awaited improvements for the “Boulevard of Death,” but it’s important that board members hear from as many rational people as possible. Transportation Alternatives has posted an RSVP form for the Thursday night meeting.

Calendar highlights below. Check complete listings for more events.

  • Today: The transportation committee of Manhattan CB 6, a district that includes Stuyvesant Town, Murray Hill, and Turtle Bay, will discuss the Move NY toll reform plan, Midtown tunnel congestion, and traffic enforcement issues. 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday: DOT will present plans for a Second Avenue protected bike lane, and other traffic calming measures, to the Manhattan CB 8 transportation committee. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: Queens CB 2 will listen to complaints concerning safety measures on Queens Boulevard. RSVP here to speak up for a safer street. 7 p.m.
