This Week: Safer Linden Blvd, Showdown Over 111th Street

Go ahead and clear your Tuesday evening schedule. With street redesigns on the agendas of five community boards in four boroughs, there’s probably something close to home happening tomorrow night. The projects up for discussion include safety plans for Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn, 111th Street in Queens, and Clove Road in Staten Island.

Here are the highlights. Check the Streetsblog calendar for the full listing of events:

  • Tuesday: The Manhattan Community Board 10 transportation committee will chew over a number of issues, including bike lanes, the expansion of bus lanes to West Harlem, and pedestrian safety fixes at 155th Street. 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: A plan to add bike lanes to the Metropolitan Avenue bridge [PDF] goes before Brooklyn Community Board 1. 6:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: DOT is presenting a redesign of Linden Boulevard, one of Brooklyn’s most dangerous arterial streets, to Brooklyn Community Board 17. 7:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: After a two-person committee voted against a street safety plan for 111th Street supported by neighborhood advocates and Council Member Julissa Ferreras, Queens Community Board 4 is set to take up the issue at its full board meeting. Assembly Member Francisco Moya, who opposes the project, plans to be there. Expect a heated meeting. 7:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: The addition of bike lanes to Clove Road goes before Staten Island Community Board 1. 8 p.m.
  • Thursday: Help shape the expansion of bike-share in Park Slope at a workshop hosted by DOT, Brooklyn Community Board 6, and Citi Bike. 7 p.m.
