The first week of Bike Month is incredibly busy on the Streetsblog calendar, with public meetings about several major street safety projects, plus Transportation Alternatives’ national Vision Zero Cities conference.

Later today, DOT will present the third phase of the Queens Boulevard redesign to Queens Community Board 6. The first two phases have add protected bike lanes and safer pedestrian crossings to 2.5 miles of the biggest street in New York’s biggest borough. The next phase will extend the redesign east to Rego Park, and Council Member Karen Koslowitz has been wavering on this one — so if you use this section of Queens Boulevard, tonight’s meeting is an important one to attend.

On Tuesday, DOT will host the first of two public workshops showing the design for protected bike lanes on Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn. Ahead of a major capital project planned for this year, local residents and City Council Member Carlos Menchaca pressed DOT to include a safe bikeway on Fourth, which is the most direct route connecting Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, and Park Slope.
