This Week: Better Buses on Utica and the Vision Zero Symposium

Street safety experts from around the world are gathering in New York this week to discuss Vision Zero, and the public can join them in workshops on Saturday. Also this week, New Yorkers can work for better bus service on Brooklyn’s Utica Avenue or a new bike lane on Staten Island’s Clove Road.

As always, check the calendar for the full slate of events. Here are the highlights:

  • Monday: After a request from Staten Island Community Board 1 and local advocates, DOT will present a proposal for a new bike lane on Clove Road to the board. 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: Transportation Alternatives activists in Queens are meeting on Tuesday evening, followed on Wednesday evening by a meeting in the Bronx and a first-ever gathering in eastern Queens. Join in to plan safe streets campaigns in your borough.
  • Wednesday: DOT is meeting with Brooklyn Community Board 1 to discuss the proposed one-way conversion of Bogart Street in East Williamsburg. 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: MTA and NYC DOT are hosting a workshop to gather ideas on how to improve bus service for the 48,000 people who ride the B46 Utica Avenue line. Join Riders Alliance supporters at the meeting and make sure your voice is heard. 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: Traffic safety experts from around the world are gathering in New York this week to discuss how Vision Zero can become a reality in cities. The public can join in on Saturday with site visits on Queens Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue, in addition to a workshop on equity in Vision Zero. RSVP required.
