This Week: Hudson St. Bikeway, Community Board Join-Up

The Department of Transportation’s comprehensive tour of community boards to present plans for bike-sharing continues this week at Manhattan CB 3 and CB 7, and Brooklyn CB 1. For a full listing of bike-share events, check the NYC DOT bike-share site.

Also important this week is a meeting of Manhattan CB 2’s transportation committee. Local residents have proposed installing a parking-protected bike lane along Hudson Street, effectively extending the Eighth Avenue bike lane from Bank Street down to Canal Street, and the Ninth Avenue bike lane from 14th Street to W. 12th Street. The community board will begin discussing whether to endorse that plan and take it to DOT this Tuesday.

  • Tonight: DOT presents the latest plans for Select Bus Service along 34th Street to Manhattan CB 6’s transportation committee, which had opposed earlier plans for a physically separated transitway. 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Community members put forward a plan for a parking-protected bike lane on Hudson Street between 14th Street and Canal Street. The transportation committee of CB 2 will consider whether to endorse that proposal. 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: Transportation Alternatives hosts its annual community board join-up jamboree. Proposals for safer streets and better bus service often live or die based on what community boards say.
