On Wednesday, Manhattan Community Board 6 will host a special meeting regarding a long-awaited proposal to fill the gap in the East Side Greenway — which the board describes as “the alienation of a portion of Robert Moses Playground, creation of replacement park space, and creation of a waterfront esplanade.” This is a popular plan that would result in a far safer environment for East Siders and other greenway users. Nevertheless, opponents who spoke at recent public meetings are expected be out in force, and based on the loaded language in the CB 6 agenda, they may have a head start. All the more reason for those who support this much-needed cyclist and pedestrian safety project to turn out and speak in favor.

• Tonight: DOT and MTA will present the final preliminary proposal for Nostrand Avenue Select Bus Service to Brooklyn Community Board 3, followed on Tuesday by an open house.
• Wednesday: As promised, the transportation committee of Manhattan Community Board 8 will take up the issue of cyclist licensing and registration. There’s a host of worthwhile agenda items on the docket as well.
• Thursday: DOT and MTA hold a open house on Select Bus Service for 34th Street, née the 34th Street busway.
