The greenway is bursting at the seams during warmer months and needs to be widened to handle the peak volume of bike and pedestrian traffic it carries.
The redesign will narrow crossing distances 26 percent, add painted pedestrians islands, and provide physical protection for the Ninth Street bike lane.
Last April, Van Bramer stood next to a grieving widow and called for a protected bike lane on 43rd Avenue. DOT produced a plan, but Van Bramer refused to support it.
