StreetsPAC, the political action committee that backs candidates who promote better conditions for walking, biking, and transit, has made endorsements in around two dozen council districts. This week, the organization released its final round of council picks, giving the nod to three incumbents.

NYPD: No Charges for Driver Who Killed Senior in Rego Park Crosswalk

NYPD has inconsistently enforced the city's Right of Way Law, which was enacted to empower precinct cops to charge reckless drivers who harm people.
Motorists have injured 22 people walking, and killed two, at Fifth Avenue and 135th Street since 2009. Fifty-six motor vehicle occupants were injured in crashes at the intersection during that time frame, a sign of drivers colliding at high speeds.

The Brooklyn Paper published a damning story Tuesday on the NYPD practice of withholding information on fatal traffic crashes from victims' families and the public. An NYPD spokesperson told the paper that police just didn't have sufficient grounds to charge the Action Carting driver who killed cyclist Neftaly Ramirez and left the scene -- echoing statements police made before they even located the driver.
